Foam rollers are great for working out the tension in your neck, back and pressure points of your body as well as your muscles. Here, Laura has devised a custom foam roller workout for you to benefit from!
I work on a computer all day, and I try to get out and run/walk and well as do yoga to help mitigate the effects of slouching at the keyboard in one position for hours.
The foam roller definitely increases benefits of stretching. This also feels great on my calves after I’ve walked and run for a few miles! Here’s Laura D. showing her techniques in the video below.

Here she takes us through some creative moves to use with a foam roller at home. These are useful to try after-workout, pre-workout, or any time your body needs some restoration and stretch.
Another Foam Roller Workout – This Time, With Pilates Reformer
According to Laura, a softer foam roller may be useful for beginners, and you can work up to using a firmer foam roller as your body becomes accustomed to this type of movement/pressure.
Benefits of Foam Roller Exercises:
- Release tight muscles
- Reduce muscle tightness
- Leads to faster muscle recovery
- Increase flexibility
- Brings bloodflow to different muscle areas
- Regular use may help reduce cellulite
- Regular use may work to break up scar tissue to promote healing of past skin injuries
- May help to relieve shin splints
Foam Rolling Tips from Laura:
Roll for about 30 to 60 seconds with each position. Feel free to linger on a tender spot and breathe through the position to release tension from that area.
